Epping, Theydon, Loughton etc
|
Probably one of the subjects done to death on here, but I'm looking for a decent country pub with good food somewhere in or around these areas, for a Sunday.
Any suggestions thrown my way much appreciated!

Agree with Smiths. Quite like the Woodbine Inn ... Near High Beech and Wake Arms ... Good food. Pub to avoid in Loughton is the Carpenters Arms ..... Went there a couple of times lately to watch some football and they just let the locals smoke... Thought it was a one-off the first time but next time it took me back 10 years and I left with my coat smelling of tobacco.

The John Barleycorn at Threshers Bush do a very good Sunday Lunch. If you like Carvery, then Blakes GC at North Weald isn't bad.

The chef from Smiths in Ongar has gone to Alec's as well - Smiths is owned by Alec's Cousin, my friend bought his house in Fyfield years ago and knows him quite well I believe

Boar good enough. I've been to The Crown in Brentwood twice and it was very good. It's the old Rose and Crown on the ONGAR road. Food was spot on. Alec's nice also.

Alec's in Navestock is excellent .Owned by the ex owner of Smiths in Ongar. It's a bit posey and toppy but great service and food.I personally prefer Smiths but both are worth trying.

Thanks all so far.
Blue Boar looks a good menu.
Massive fan of Smiths, but want to try somewhere new. The one in Wapping is also excellent.
